Her Excellency Dame Melinda Simmons DCMG is a seasoned British diplomat and public servant with extensive experience in international development, conflict resolution, and national security. She served as His Majesty’s Ambassador to Ukraine from 2019 to 2023, navigating complex geopolitical challenges during a critical period in the region. Prior to that, she held senior roles at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the Department for International Development (DFID), including Deputy
Director of the Conflict Department and Head of DFID Southern Africa in Pretoria.

Her career spans key leadership positions in humanitarian response, European affairs,
and Middle East and North Africa policy. In 2023–2024, she was appointed Honorary
Professor at University College London, and she has undertaken full-time language training in both Ukrainian and Polish to support her diplomatic missions.

In September 2025, Dame Melinda Simmons began her mission as Ambassador
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Poland.

Cindy Rose OBE serves as the Group Chief Executive Officer of WPP, a leading media and marketing services company operating in more than 100 countries worldwide. Appointed to this role in September 2025, Cindy oversees WPP’s global strategy, harnessing the company’s market-leading AI capabilities, creative excellence, and global client roster to drive the company’s next chapter of growth and transformative impact.

Drawing on a distinguished career spanning three decades across the technology, telecommunications, media, entertainment, and creative industries, Cindy offers deep
expertise in digital transformation and global enterprise. Prior to becoming CEO of WPP, she held senior executive positions at Microsoft for nine years, most recently as Chief Operating Officer, Global Enterprise. In this role, she was instrumental in guiding some of the world’s biggest companies through complex digital and AI-driven transformations, seamlessly integrating cloud, data, and advanced AI tools, including Copilot, into their core business operations.

Cindy also served as President of Microsoft Western Europe and CEO of Microsoft UK, further demonstrating her proven ability to manage multi-billion-dollar operations across diverse international markets. Earlier in her career, she was Managing Director of the UK consumer business at Vodafone and Executive Director of Digital Entertainment and Media Sales at Virgin Media. Notably, she spent 15 years at The Walt Disney Company, culminating as Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Disney Interactive Media Group, EMEA, where she spearheaded the entertainment giant’s interactive media business across Europe.

Cindy is an Advisory Board Member at Imperial College Business School in London and
McLaren Racing, and she previously served as a Non-Executive Director on the WPP Board from 2019 until her CEO appointment.

Holding dual British and American citizenship, Cindy is based in both London and New York, and in recognition of her substantial contributions to the UK technology sector, she was awarded an OBE in the 2019 New Year Honours. Cindy is a graduate of Columbia University and New York Law School.

From 2013 to 2019, Gillian was the FT’s US Managing Editor, also serving as Assistant Editor for the FT’s markets coverage, Capital Markets Editor, Deputy Editor of the Lex column, Tokyo Bureau Chief and Correspondent, London-based economics reporter and a reporter in Russia and Brussels.
